In the tournament, Puri Senior (Odisha), Kolkata-2, KISS (Odisha) secured second, third and fourth positions respectively.
The champion team got the trophy and a cash prize of Rs 25,000 while the runners up team received a trophy and Rs 15000, the third placed team Rs 10000 and the fourth Rs.5000
All these four teams automatically qualified for the Asian Cities Chess Championship, which will be held at KIIT campus in Bhubaneswar from August 26 to September 1, 2017.
The tournament was jointly organised by the KIIT University and Jagatsinghpur District Chess Association, where a total of 32 National City Teams consisting of over 200 players from various states, including Odisha, Haryana, Punjab, Tamilnadu, and Telengana, participated.
Saina Sonalika, Kiran Manisha Mohanty, Swanshu Mishra, Sekhar Sahu and Utkal Ranjan Sahu represented the champion KIIT team.
Odisha’s Higher Education Minister Ananta Das, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Chandra Sarathi Behera, founder of KIIT and KISS Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Brigadier L.C. Patnaik, Odisha Chess Association President Sekhar Sahu and other dignitaries were present at the valedictory function and distributed awards to the winners.
