Melbourne: Indian skipper Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara were at the crease when India ended the first day of the third Test on 215/2 against Australia at the MCG here on Wednesday.
With this, Kohli (47*) and Pujara (68*) also recorded highest partnership of the on-going four-match Test series between India and Australia, paving way for a big first-innings total in the Boxing Day Test.
Opting to bat first, India were rewarded with a classic 76 from debutant Mayank Agarwal and a 66-ball eight from makeshift opener Hanuma Vihari.
For Australia, PJ Cummins took both the wickets of Agarwal and Vihari.
The series is currently tied at 1-1. India had won the first game at Adelaide by 31 runs while the Aussies bounced back with a 146-run win in the second Test at Perth.
