Jasprit Bumrah Becomes 3rd Indian Bowler To Take Test Hat-Trick

New Delhi: Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah created history on Sunday as he became the third Indian cricketer to get a hat-trick in Test cricket during the ongoing second Test against West Indies at Sabina Park.

Bumrah got the wickets of Darren Bravo, Shamarh Brooks and Roston Chase off successive deliveries to achieve the feat.

Bumrah started the damage by getting Bravo caught-behind to KL Rahul at second slip for 4. He then trapped Shamarh Brooks plumb in front for a golden duck with an inswinging delivery. Roston Chase got a similar ball next up and was wrapped on the pads but the umpire gave it not out at first.

Off-spinner Harbhajan Singh was the first Indian to pick up a Test hat-trick (vs Australia in Kolkata in 2001) after which left-arm pacer Irfan Pathan repeated the feat when he took three wickets off consecutive balls against Pakistan in Karachi in 2006. Pathan incidentally, was the first bowler in history to grab a hat-trick in the first over of Test cricket.

Bumrah’s hat-trick reduced the West Indies to 13 for 4 inside 9 overs in their first innings. They currently trail India by 403 runs in the second Test. India were bowled out for 416 in the final session on Day 2 with Hanuma Vihari top-scoring with 111 runs while Ishant Sharma contributed with 57.
