Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan has confirmed that MS Dhoni will be available for Friday’s crucial Indian Premier League 2023 opener against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. A report in the Indian Express suggested that the CSK management did not want to take any risks with the injury, as Dhoni sustained a slight niggle on his left knee, raising doubts about his availability for the season opener.

The 41-year-old wicketkeeper had sustained a niggle on his left knee during a training session in Chennai and didn’t bat at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera during CSK’s nets on Thursday.

Reportedly, Dhoni was seen wearing a kneecap on the eve of the game, and it was also understood that he will miss the opening encounter of the IPL in 2023. But CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan has confirmed to PTI that the captain will definitely take the field and that he is 100% fit. “As far as I am concerned, the Dhoni is 100% playing. I don’t know about any other development,” he said.

In the meantime, CSK suffered yet another setback when left-arm pacer Mukesh Choudhary was declared ineligible for the entire season. As his replacement, they included Akash Singh in the team. In addition, CSK will be without Maheesh Theekshana and Matheesha Pathirana for the first three matches, and GT will be without David Miller for the first game. Ben Stokes is likely to bat as a specialist for CSK, so he won’t bowl, at least in the first few matches.
