India’s deadly trio: Bumrah, Shami, Ishant

Bhubaneswar: Win at Boxing Day Test match got team India a 2-1 lead in Border-Gavaskar Trophy against the hosts Australia. Indian pacer trio Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami and Ishant Sharma played an extremely important part in winning the 3rd test match.

Bumrah took a total of 9 wickets in 34.5 overs in two innings. Shami took a total of 3 wickets in 31 overs in two innings. Ishant also took a total of 3 wickets in 27.3 overs in two innings.

Bumrah registered six wickets in the first innings of the third Test again. It is the third time the right-armed pacer completed a five-wicket haul in a Test innings this year.

Boxing Day Match

Earlier on day 3, the Indian bowling combination of nine regular bowlers and one part-time bowler combined to break the nation’s 39-year-old record. In 2018, the bowlers scalped a record 257 wickets in 14 wickets, hence overhauling the group of bowlers from the year 1979 that had picked 237 wickets from 17 matches.

Day 3 was also a bit of a special day for Bumrah, who has finished his first innings with a career-best and record-breaking figure of six for 33. The brilliant effort made him the most successful Indian bowler in debut Test year and the Indian bowler with most wickets in a year in the format.

The trio created a record of becoming the most successful pace trio in a calendar year with a total of 131 wickets in 2018. While Bumrah has taken 46 wickets in 2018 in nine Tests, Shami has so far taken 46 wickets in the same year in 12 Tests. Ishant Sharma has also taken 39 wickets this year so far in 11 Tests.

In the 2nd Test match at Perth, Indian team management was criticised for not picking any spinners in the team. The match ended in favour of the Aussies. Later after the end of 3rd match Kohli lauded his bowlers efforts.

“Jasprit has been brilliant for us, The three seamers have broken a record for the highest number of wickets in a calendar year. Jasprit was unlucky not top get wickets in Perth. Team management calmed him down and he won us the test match”, said Indian captain Virat Kohli in post-match presentation.

The Trio

Bumrah was adjudged Man-of-the-match for the 3rd Test. He has been the spearhead of India’s pace attack. His anomalous action and natural pace can give worry to any batsmen in the world.

Shami’s quick promotion to International cricket was all due to his immensely wonderful performance at domestic level. His success can be attributed to his pace, accuracy and primarily his skill in moving the ball – both old and new.

Ishant started playing serious domestic cricket at just about 14. His rise to national cricket team was nothing but a surprise. It was in Australia where he shone, swinging the ball both ways and leaving the Australians, most prominently Ricky Ponting, flummoxed. The lanky pacer earned praise from the legend Shane Warne too.
