Indian men’s hockey team ends ‘Europe tour’ on high

Indian Hockey TeamAmstelveen:  Indian men’s hockey team finished its European tour on a high after registering a thrilling victory over Austria here last night. In their fifth and final game of the tour, India won the match 4-3 against the Austrians courtesy a last second goal.

Austria deflected a cross into the back of the net to secure the lead going into the end of first quarter, but a penalty corner helped the Indian side to equalise.

The match went 1-1 till the end of second quarter. In the third quarter, India scored two goals in quick succession to take a 3-1 lead. Making a quick comeback, Austrians also scored two goals to equalise at 3-3. However, only 10 seconds to full time, Chinglen Kangujam scored for India to pull off a sensational win.

It was India’s third victory on the trot in the European tour. Earlier, India had lost the first two matches to Belgium and went on to win the other two against the Netherlands.

The young side led by Manpreet Singh finished their five-match European tour with three wins and two defeats.
