India vs Australia 4th Test: Team India pay homage to Ramakant Achrekar

Sydney: Members of the Indian cricket team are wearing black bands as a mark of homage to Ramakant Achrekar during their fourth Test against Australia here today Sydney.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on its Twitter handle gave the information.

Likewise, the Australia are also wearing black armbands in memory of former Australia batsman Bill Watson who passed away on December 31. He was 87.

Achrekar died aged 87 yesterday owing to old-age related ailments. He is known to have coached many famous players from Mumbai, most notably Indian batting great and former captain Sachin Tendulkar.

Apart from Tendulkar, his students like Vinod Kambli and Ajit Agarkar went on to play more than 100 international matches for India.

Achrekar was awarded the Dronacharya and the Padma Shri for his contribution to Indian cricket.
