Adelaide: Riding on Cheteshwar Pujara’s superb 123, India were 250 for 9 at stumps on day one of the first test against Australia here on Thursday.

Opting to bat first, Indian top order batsmen, except Pujara, failed miserably in the first two sessions of the match.

KL Rahul (2), Murali Vijay (11), Virat Kohli (3) and Ajinkya Rahane (13) flopped against the Kangaroo.

The visitors were just 85 for 5 at one stage, before Pujara scored his 16th test hundred and revived the Indian innings.

Rohit Sharma (37), Rishabh Pant (25) and Ravichandran Ashwin (25) made valuable contributions but couldn’t excel in the innings.

The stumps were drawn after Pujara’s wicket, with Mohammad Shami at the crease at 6.

For Australia, Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon bagged 2 wickets each.
