Sydney:  Australian captain Aaron Finch won the toss and opted to bat first against India in the first game of the three-match One-Day International (ODI) series at the SCG here on Saturday.

Australia were 10 for 1 in 3 overs, when this report was filed. Skipper Finch (6) was bowled by Bhubaneswar Kumar in the third over of the match.

India would be high on confidence after having lifted their first Border-Gavaskar Test trophy on the Australian soil.

However, the balance of India’s side has been disrupted with the absence of all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who along with KL Rahul were sent home from the tour pending an inquiry into their comments on women during a TV show

India brought Ravindra Jadeja at No. 7 as the second spinner alongside Kuldeep Yadav who has impressed in recent Test series. Dinesh Karthik came into the middle ahead of Kedar Jadhav.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni returned to this format after being dropped initially for the Australian tour.

Australia, the defending World Cup champions, have won just three ODIs in nearly two years.
