Dambulla: A clinical performance by the bowlers aided by the fielders and superb batting display by Shikhar Dhawan & Virat Kohli helped India register a 9-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the first ODI in Dambulla and take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
Earlier, India won the toss and elected to bowl first. Lanka bowled out for 216 in 43.2 overs. Dickwella 64, K Mendis 36, Mathews 36* were the top scorers. AxarPatel was the key bowler with the figure of 3/34, Bumrah, Chahal and Jadhav took 2 wickets each.
India lost Rohit Sharma early. That was the only time Sri Lanka had a laugh. Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli hammered the Lankan bowlers throughout to reach 220/1 in just 28.5 overs.
Player of the Match Shikhar Dhawan remained unbeaten on 132 off 90 balls. He hit 20 boundaries and 3 sixes. Kohli hit 82* off 70 balls.
