Cuttack: The Second One Day International (ODI) match between India and England got disrupted as one of the floodlights went off at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack this evening.

One of the floodlights reportedly flickered and then went off while Saqib Mahmood was bowling the sixth over to Shubman Gill. The lights went off again when Indian Skipper Rohit Sharma went to bat. Frustrated over the incident, Rohit soon shook his head and expressed his annoyance with the umpires.

Later, the umpires suspended the match for about 29 minutes while most of the people in the crowd turned their mobile lights on. The players then went off the ground.

The unfortunate incident has not gone down well among the fans with several of them criticizing the organizers on different social media platforms.

The match, however, resumed as the floodlight issue was resolved after about 29 minutes. Saqib Mahmood bowled to Rohit who took 2 runs and the host were at 49-0 in 6.2 overs.

Meanwhile, an official of the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) gave a clarification over the light issue and said, “The generator attached to the floodlight malfunctioned, so the lights were off on that tower near the clock tower. We got the back-up generator on. It took some time to change the connection from one generator to the other, which caused the delay.”
