India begin World Cup journey with wounded South Africa

Bhubaneswar: Team India will begin their 2019 World Cup journey with South Africa on Wednesday. The match will be played at the Rose Bowl, Southampton and is scheduled to start at 3 pm (IST).

Virat Kohli-led team India will be keen on winning their World Cup tryst with a big win against a beleaguered South African team.

The Proteas are going through a mini-crisis after losing their opening two matches — to England and Bangladesh, respectively — and a loss against India could spell doom for the South African. On top of bad form, injury woes will also trouble the team.

India’s much-feared bowling line-up led by Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Hardik Pandya, wrist spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal can easily dump the South Africans to the bottom of the point table.

Kohli would be leading the team for the first time in the World Cup. While he and his men in blue seem to be raring to go, the openers giving a solid foundation and middle-order maintaining the pace will be important for India.

This World Cup also offers Kohli the opportunity to walk out of Dhoni’s shadows.

A billion pair of eyes will be fixed on their TV screens to witness India and South Africa battle it out today.
