India beat Sri Lanka by 88 runs in Indore T20, lead series 2-0

Indore: India beat Sri Lanka by 88 runs in the second T20 International to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series , played at Holkar Cricket Stadium here on Friday evening.

Chasing a victory target of 261 runs, Sri Lanka were all out for 172 runs in 17.2 overs. Top order batsman Kusal Perera made 77 runs, while Upul Tharanga and Dilantha Dickwella contributed 47 and 25 respectively.  No other batsmen touched the double digit score. For India, Yuzvendra Chahal took four wickets.

Earlier, put into bat, India scored 260 for 5 in the stipulated 20 overs. Skipper Rohit Sharma reached many landmarks with his contribution of 118 which is the highest individual score for India in T20.

Opening India’s innings, Rohit and KL Rahul displayed magnificent skills in the shortest version of the game and put a 165 runs opening stand, which is the highest for India for any wicket in T20 matches.

Rohit’s 35 ball hundred was joint fastest century in Twenty20, the other being of David Miller of South Africa. He also became the first Indian captain to score a century in T-20. He was declared Man of the Match.

The Third and Final T20 international will be played at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday.
