Mumbai: India beat Sri Lanka by five wickets in the third and final Twenty20 cricket International to wrap up the series 3-0 in Mumbai last night. It was India’s first clean-sweep in a bilateral T20 series against Sri Lanka.

Chasing a modest 136 run, India’s openers failed but the hosts reached the target with five wickets in hand and four balls to spare, thanks some testing performances of middle-orders.

The home team lost their openers early – Rohit Sharma for 27 and KL Rahul for 4 – but Shreyas Iyer (30) and Manish Pandey (32) brought them back on track with a sturdy 42-run stand for the third wicket.

India lost both Pandey and Pandya (4) in the space of eight balls but Dinesh Karthik (18 not out) and MS Dhoni (16 not out) calmly took India to victory.

Earlier, the hosts restricted Sri Lanka to a modest 135 after Indian skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to field. The visiting team lost wickets at regular intervals and only managed to cross 100 in the 16th over.

For India, Jaydev Unadkat and Hardik Pandya scalped two wickets each, while Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj and debutant Washington Sundar got one wicket each. Unadkat received both Man of the Match and Man of the Series awards.

India had won the first T20 in Cuttack by 93 runs and the second in Indore by 88 runs.
