Hockey World Cup 2018: India to take on South Africa in opener

Bhubaneswar:  Host India will play their first match against South Africa in the 14th Edition Men’s Hockey World Cup at the iconic Kalinga stadium here in Odisha on Wednesday. The match will start at 7 PM.

As many 16 teams, divided in four groups, are participating in the tournament. India have been placed in Group C, along with Belgium, Canada, and South Africa.

Eight-time Olympic champions India’s only glory at the World Cup came way back in 1975 when Ajit Pal Singh and his men’s created history for the past masters of the game.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik declared the Men’s Hockey World Cup 2018 open here on Tuesday in a glittering ceremony amidst fireworks and lighting.
