Guwahati to host third edition of Khelo India

New Delhi:  The third edition of Khelo India Youth Games will be held in Assam’s Guwahati next year, Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju said on Saturday.

The Union Minister took the twitter route to announce the decision.

“I am happy to announce that the 3rd edition of the KheloIndia Youth Games will be held at Guwahati from January 18-30, 2020,” Rijiju tweeted.

“The Games will see a participation of more than 10,000 athletes and officials. It will be conducted in partnership with IOA, SGFI & Assam as host State,” he added.

 

The Khelo India programme has been introduced to revive the sports culture in India at the grass-root level by building a strong framework for all sports played in our country and establish India as a great sporting nation.

The Khelo India Youth Games are the national level multidisciplinary grassroot games in the country. With this initiative, every year best 1000 kids will be given an annual scholarship of Rs 5,00,000 for eight years to prepare them for the international sporting events.

The inaugural edition of the Games was held in New Delhi in 2018, while Pune hosted the second one this year.
