Gold for Jinson Johnson, Women’s 4x400m relay team at Asian Games

Jakarta: India’s Jinson Johnson claimed a gold medal in the men’s 1500m event in the 18th Asian Games here on Thursday.

Johnson clocked 3:44.72 sec to claim the gold ahead of Iran’s Amir Moradi, who turned in a timing of 3:45.62sec, his season’s best effort.

While, Bahrain’s Mohammed Tiouali settled with a bronze (3:45.88sec), India’s Manjit, who had claimed gold in the 800m event, took the fourth position with a timing of 3:46.57sec.

Earlier, Johnson had won a silver in the 800m event.

Likewise, the Indian women’s 4x400m relay team won India their 13th gold in the 2018 Asian Games after they won the 4x400m relay with a timing of 3:28.72.

The team was comprised of Hima Das, Saritaben Laxmanbhai Gayakwad, Poovamma Raju Machettira and Vismaya Velluva Koroth. This was India’s fifth gold medal in a row in the women’s 4x400m relay.

On the other hand, the men’s relay team featuring Muhammed Kunhu, Dharu Ayyasamy, Muhammed Anas and Arokia Rajiv pocketed the silver medal.

India’s latest medal tally:

Gold — 13

Silver — 21

Bronze — 25

Total: 59
