FIFA U-17 World Cup: India lose 1-2 to Colombia

FIFA U 17 World CupNew Delhi: India produced one of their finest performances before going down to Colombia 1-2 in a Group A match of the FIFA U-17 World Cup at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here on Monday.

At half-time, both the teams were goalless. Soon after the break, Juan Penaloza opened the scoring for Colombia when he sent the ball into India’s goal post in the 49th minute.

For India, defensive midfielder Jeakson Thounaojam neutralized Colombia’s lead by scoring the country’s first ever FIFA World Cup goal in the 82nd minute.

India’s celebrations, however, did not last long as Penaloza’s second goal at the 83rd  minute sealed the game for Colombia.

It was India’s second defeat after losing to the United States 0-3 in their tournament-opener. India are slated to play their third and final group game against Ghana on Thursday.
