New Delhi: Paying a perfect farewell gift to veteran pacer Ashish Nehra, India won the first Twenty-20 of the three-match series against New Zealand by 53 runs at the Feroz Shah Kotla Ground here on Wednesday evening. It was India’s first-ever win over the Kiwis in T-20 Internationals.

Put into bat, the Men in Blue posted massive 202 for 3, riding on a 158-run first-wicket stand between Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma. Both scored 80 runs each.

Chasing the victory target of 203, the Kiwis managed to score just 149 for 8 in the stipulated 20 overs. Skipper Williamson (28) and Latham (39) struck well but wickets fell on regular basis. Yuzvendra Chahal and Axar Patel bagged 2 wickets each, while Hardik Pandya, Bhubaneswar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah took one wicket each.

Nehra signed off his international career with figures of 4-0-29-0 in front of his home crowd.

Dhawan got the Man of the Match award. The second T-20I will be played in Rajkot on Saturday.
