Former India batter Sanjay Bangar’s son Aryan Sunday shared his transformation journey going hormonal after 10 months as he expressed his distress with the present form of men’s cricket in an Instagram post saying that finding his “true self” has been the “greatest victory.”
Aryan Bangar, the young lad undergone sex transformation surgery. He identifies himself on social media as Anaya Bangar. Just like his dad, Aryan Bangar was a left-handed batter. He used to play for Islam Gymkhana in local club cricket Mumbai. Following the surgery, Aryan now identifies as Anaya.
Taking to Instagram, Anaya said, “The journey has been a hard and sacrificial one, but the off-field journey of embracing her true self was no different, though I take pride in taking the road, that was labelled ‘the greatest victory of all.'”
On another post that appeared on the social media page, Anaya opened about the “painful reality” of how the ‘Hormone Replacement Therapy’ affected her cricketing capabilities. The post read, “From a young age, cricket has always been part of my life. I grew up watching my dad with awe while he played for and coached the country, not too long before I started dreaming of walking in his footsteps. The passion, discipline, and dedication to sport that he showed me made me want those qualities too. Cricket became my love, my ambition, and future. My entire life has comprised practice and patience, hoping one day I would be given a chance to take the field for my country like him. It never occurred to me ever that one day, I might have to quit the sport that has been my passion, love, and means of escape. Here I am, however, dealing with the harsh reality. As a trans woman on hormone replacement therapy (HRT), my body has changed drastically. Muscle mass, strength, muscle memory, and athletic ability one relied on are all being stripped away. The game of more than three decades and its essence are slowly drifting away from me.”
The 23-year-old has also been impacted by the “lacking proper regulations for trans women in cricket,” accusing the system of failing her as she called for “policies that do not make us choose between passion and identity.”
