Dhoni: Key to India’s Glory in the last decade

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, also known as Mahi or MSD, is gearing up to guide Indian cricket team to another victory at the 12th edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, scheduled to be hosted by England and Wales, from 30th May to 14th July 2019.

Dhoni, the 37- year old wicketkeeper batsmen hailing from Ranchi has not been seen looking back after leading India to victory at the ICC T20 Cricket World 2007 at Johannesburg, South Africa. He was highly instrumental in India’s historic World Cup victory at home in 2011 which is India’s only triumph after the 1983 World Cup. It was under Dhoni’s captaincy when Indian Cricket Team has had the maximum number of glories. His induction into the Indian Cricket team and his role as a captain has proved to be a game-changing move for the BCCI. The upcoming world cup is anticipated to be the last world cup of the “Captain Cool”.

In the upcoming world cup, the Indian Cricket team led by Virat Kohli has set huge expectations of people. The squad comprises of mostly young talents and a few veterans like MSD, R. Jadeja. Dhoni has always been a guiding light for Virat Kohli. Kohli has been seen appreciating Dhoni’s guidance on different platforms. Dhoni’s vision and anticipating powers have always been appreciated by different cricketing greats around the globe.

His team, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), may not have won IPL this year after losing by a single run in the finals, but his performance in the tournament has been really impressive in guiding CSK to its 8th final in the league.

He has always been a backbone for young talents. It has been seen that his inputs have always been highly valuable for young cricketing talents and have proved to be life changing for many. His headstrong decision making and his cool temperament have made him the greatest captain in the history of cricket in the country.

His quick running between the wickets and his ability to turn ones into twos has turned tables for the team on many occasions. With being an active helping hand to Virat on the field, his speed and accuracy behind the wickets is something that none can matchup with even now. He is undoubtedly the fastest gloves in the game. His mere presence behind the stumps gives immense confidence and courage to the young Indian bowlers in the squad. He is often seen helping young talents on and off the field.

With 341 matches and over 10,500 runs in ODIs, Dhoni is one of the most appreciated players in the history of the game. It is time to see how the Indian cricket team can capitalize on Dhoni’s capabilities and experience in the upcoming world cup in England and Wales and bring glory to the country again.  Dhoni will be an interesting factor to look out for in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. It is nearly about time for the world cup to kick off and let’s see how instrumental the presence of MS Dhoni in the squad going to be is.
