Day 3 of Men’s Hockey World Cup

Netherlands will face Malaysia; Germany to challenge Pakistan. Time for action from Pool D

Bhubaneswar: Pool D comprises the Netherlands, Malaysia, Germany, and Pakistan. A bunch of most formidable teams. Hence the pool has been dubbed as the Death Pool.

Three-time World Cup winners Netherlands are set to meet Speedy Tigers Malaysia. Malaysia had ended as runners-up of  2017 Men’s Hockey Asia cup in Bangladesh and silver medalists at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta. World number 4 the Netherlands is a clear favorite against World number 14 Malaysia. The Netherlands has beaten Malaysia 5 out of the 6 times they met.

For the second match, four-time World champions Pakistan will face three-time World champions Germany. The match is set to be filled with fireworks. In no way should 6 ranked Germany should take 13 ranked Pakistan, as the latter seems an enviable squad.

The third day’s first match is scheduled to start at 5 pm IST, while the second at 7 pm IST. Both matches will be held at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar. These will also be telecast on Start Sports network and Doordarshan as well.
