Asian Games: Swapna Barman, Arpinder Singh win gold

Jakarta: India added two more gold to its tally at the 18th Asian Games here this evening. Swapna Barman bagged gold in women’s heptathlon event while Arpinder Singh won gold in Men’s Triple Jump finals.

Swapna finished the seven-discipline event with over 6000 points. On the other hand another Indian heptathlete Purnima Hembram fished fourth.

Despite a foul in the first attempt, Arpinder managed to reach 16.58m in his second attempt. After two attempts, Arpinder with 16.58 and Rakesh with 16.40 secured first and second positions respectively in the event.

However, Arpinder took his lead in his third attempt with 16.77m and extended his lead at the top. Later, he continued to maintain his lead but Rakesh slipped to the fourth spot after three attempts.

Arpinder with 16.77m finished first while Rakesh babu with 16.40m finished sixth in his final attempt in the event.

With the medals of Swapna Barman and Arpinder Singh India now has a total of 54 medals – 11 gold, 20 silver, 23 bronze.
