Asian Games 2018: Odisha CM announces Rs 50 lakh Cash award each for two Men Hockey Players

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday announced a cash award of Rs 50 lakh each for the two players from Odisha in the Indian men’s hockey team which bagged the bronze medal at the 18th Asian Games in Indonesia.

The cash reward was announced for Birendra Lakra and Amit Rohidas who played the Bronze medal match against arch-rivals Pakistan. Both players were instrumental in the defence department of the Indian team.

Defending champions India beat Pakistan 2-1 in a nail-biting match to clinch bronze medal in the men’s hockey competition at the 18th Asian Games in Jakarta on Saturday.

Odisha Govt is the proud sponsor of the Indian National Hockey Team. It will also host the men’s hockey World Cup here from November 28 to December 16 this year.

Earlier, Patnaik announced a cash reward of Rs 1 crore each to four hockey players from Odisha in the Indian Women’s Hockey team which bagged the silver medal at the Asian Games. Four players are Sunita Lakra, Namita Toppo, Lilima Minz and Deep Grace Ekka.

On Friday, Patnaik handed over a cheque of Rs 3 crore to sprinter Dutee Chand as prize money for her achievements in both 100m and 200m events at the  Asian Games. Chand won the silver medal in both events.
