Doha: Sprint sensation Dutee Chand broke her own national record as she qualified for the women’s 100m semifinal in the 23rd Asian Athletics Championships at the Khalifa International Stadium here on Sunday.
23-year-old Dutee became the fastest qualifier here as she clocked 11.28s in the heats, breaking her own national record of 11.29s set in Guwahati last year.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik congratulated Dutee for her new national record in the Asian Athletics Championships.

However, there was a big setback for the Indian team as Junior World champion and Asian Games silver medallist Hima Das suffered a back pain to crash out of the tournament.
In the 2017 Championships held in Odisha’s Bhubaneswar, India had finished on top with a record-breaking haul of 29 medals – 12 gold, 5 silver and 12 bronze. China had finished second with 20 medals.
