AR Rahman, Gulzar to create official song of Men’s Hockey World Cup-2018

Bhubaneswar: Grammy and Academy award winning musician AR Rahman and legendary Bollywood lyricist Gulzar will collaborate for the official song of the upcoming Men’s Hockey World Cup-2018. This was announced by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today.

Patnaik took to his twitter handle and announced it.

According to reports, Gulzar Sahab has penned the lyrics of the track titled “Jai Hind Hind, Jai India”, and Rahman is consumed in composing the music which will enthrall the audience with its blend of poetry and rhythm.

“Nothing says India more than our beloved sport hockey. And nothing is more exciting than the world’s biggest hockey tournament happening right here, on our turf. The Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup, Bhubaneswar 2018,” Rahman said in a statement.

“It’s heart-warming to see the entire nation pledge their heartbeats for hockey. As an extension of pledging our heartbeats, Gulzar Sahab and I have created the World Cup Song. A song that will excite and inspire, as also get you on your feet. Join me in this celebration of hockey — of not just our men in blue but the spirit of the game, the spirit of universal oneness,” he added.

The song is likely to be released at the Kalinga Stadium early October.

This apart, Rahman will be performing the song live at the opening ceremony of the mega sports event on November 27. This would be his first ever performance in the state.

The tournament will kick start from November 28 and will conclude with the final match on December 16 at Kalinga Stadium. The pool-wise matches will be held between November 28 and December 9, with two matches per day starting at 5.00 pm and 7.00 pm (IST) respectively.
