Afghan footballer died after after falling from US military plane

Kabul: A disturbing revelation has come to light that Zaki Anwari, an Afghan national team footballer, died in a fall from a US military plane at Kabul airport on Monday.

According to reports, the 19-year-old Zaki Anwari’s remains were found in the aircraft’s wheel well when it landed in Doha which was later confirmed by the General Directorate of Physical Education and Sports of Afghanistan.

“May he rest in heaven and pray to God for his family, friends and sports colleagues,” said the organisation.

Anwari was one of thousands of Afghans who flocked to the Hamid Karzai International Airport on Monday, the day after the Taliban captured the Afghan capital, hoping to get on a plane out of the country. He reportedly climbed onto a C-17 plane that was about to depart from Kabul.

He was a high school student and a member of the country’s national junior football team.
