Wrestlers workout in Jantar Mantar amid protest, video goes viral

After having meals and spending night on the streets, now the wrestlers have added working out at the same place into their protest

Top Indian wrestlers, Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat, and others have been protesting at the Jantar Mantar to file an FIR against the president of the Indian Wrestling Federation, Brijbhushan Singh. Today, the group took their workout session to the streets as they refuse to evacuate the place. A clip of the same is doing rounds on the Internet.

On Day 4 of the protest, after eating and sleeping on the street, the wrestlers were seen doing wrestling exercises. In the clip shared on Twitter by Sports Today, Vinesh Phogat can be seen training with his wife Sangita Phogat, while Sakshi was helped by her husband Satyawart Kadian- the Arjuna awardee wrestler.

Meanwhile, a physiotherapist can be seen assisting the Olympic bronze medallist Bajrang Punia on the mat. Although they all looked tired, sleepless nights couldn’t shake their passion for the sport.

Take a look:

“We will not go from here till we get justice. And we are ready to face the punishment if we are wrong. Wrestling is everything for us and we want to keep ourselves fit both mentally and physically. We will keep practicing here,” Bajrang told IANS.

For those unversed, the wrestlers are protesting over filing an FIR against Brij Bhushan over sexual harassment. A bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narsihman of the Supreme Court heard the case and asked the Delhi government and the Delhi Police to respond to the player’s demand to file an FIR.

Along with Binesh Phogat, 7 women have filed a sexual harassment complaint against the head of the Women’s Wrestling Federation.

On Wednesday, Delhi Police said to Supreme Court that some preliminary inquiry is required to conduct before an FIR can be registered into a complaint by wrestlers alleging sexual harassment by Brij Bhushan.

The next hearing of the case will be on April 28. Meanwhile, Congress and AAP have supported the wrestler’s protest.
