Watch: Penguins and otters in Japan’s aquarium refuse to eat; video viral
It is not an easy job to take care of animals at zoo or Aquariums, but the caretakers make it look so easy and effortless. However, a video from an aquarium in Japan has now surfaced online and it shows penguins and otters refusing to eat.
The reason behind such behaviours of these aquatic animals is that they are now being offered cheaper fish due to rising costs. According to AFP, the Hakone-en aquarium located in central Japan’s Kanagawa region has replaced some of its traditional and more expensive horse mackerel with cheaper mackerel.
The change in the menu has not received a good response from the penguins and otters, and the video showcasing the scenario has attracted the attention of many.
The short clip has garnered more than 1 million views and tons of reactions. In the video, the mammals could be seen taking the first bite and then dropping it out in dislike. Hiroki Shimamoto, the aquarium head told AFP that he suspects that such behaviour of the animals is because they don’t like the size of their meals. “They sense something is off,” Shimamoto added.
He further quoted, “The problem is even more acute among the aquarium’s otters, who have uniformly rejected the cheaper fish.”
