Viral video highlights worsening air quality in the capital as foreigner reveals shocking indoor pollution build-up.
A viral Instagram video was posted by Andy Evans, a foreigner living in Delhi, who is popularly known as “Aussie Bhai” on social media. He shared footage of the filters on his air purifier filled with dust and other forms of particulate matter after only 60 days of use, highlighting the seriousness of air pollution in the Capital City.
In the video shared on social media, it can be seen that the dust that had been accumulating inside the machine, despite it being used to filter air indoors, illustrates the extent to which the pollution levels in Delhi are so widespread and severe that they are being justifiably called the layers of dust.
In the video, the foreigner stated that even in his house, where he couldn’t stop running the purifier, the filters still had visible deposits of dust, which aroused suspicions regarding the quality of indoor air and the efficiency of air filtration.
He captioned the viral post with some remarks relating to the fact that even indoor settings in Delhi were being influenced by the weather in a few days, drawing attention to health and environmental problems that people continue to endure.
The video gained online attention, and the viewers responded to the vivid images and provided their personal experience in having the same difficulties with air quality. The comment of one of the users is, “When various indoor purifiers fill so quickly, how about outside air? This is very poor”. One of them wrote, “This is how the invisible pollution influences our everyday life”.
According to air quality experts, purifiers may actually minimize indoor air contamination, though the air quality outside homes, particularly extreme levels of PM 2.5 or dust, can penetrate homes and clog the filters, resulting in low indoor air quality in the long term.
With the debate on pollution gaining momentum, there are calls among people to encourage the government and the citizenry to implement stronger policies to counter emissions and ensure the safety of people.
