In the world’s biggest spiritual pilgrimage, the Mahakumbh, business grows hand in hand with piety. Sellers hurry to sell whatever from holy accessories to street meals. Content creator Shubham Prajapat accepted an unusual challenge of launching a tea stall to see how much cash he could garner in a single day. And unexpectedly the test brought back a surprising Rs. 5,000 profit that generated a lot of buzz in social media circles.

Prajapat recorded his progression from establishing a small tea cart to interacting with clients. As per his video, the peak business hours were during the morning, with an uninterrupted flow of chai enthusiasts. Afternoons provided a momentary lull, but Prajapat learned to capitalize by carrying his tea and water bottles right into the busy throngs. At day’s end, he’d sold Rs. 7,000 worth of tea.

He uploaded the video on social media and it went viral within few hours. The internet responded swiftly, with some admiring Prajapat’s business insight and others doing calculations. One user did the math and figured that if Prajapat made Rs 5,000 a day, he would earn Rs 1,50,000 in a month. Another user referred to him as “Kumbh Chaiwala,” comparing him to popular Nagpur-based tea vendor Dolly Chaiwala.

Reportedly, Prajapat is not the first Mahakumbh vendor to become viral. Monalisa Bholse, a woman, was in the spotlight after a blogger included her in a social media clip. But unlike Prajapat, her viral success did not bring her more business. Faced with too many people, she found it difficult to sell her items and eventually abandoned Mahakumbh to go back home. Prajapat’s success story is a contrast, highlighting the possibility of vendors succeeding in the crowded Mahakumbh market.
