China: In a touching turn of events, a cat at China’s Xiyuan Temple has found itself an internet hit, charming thousands with its sweet ‘blessings’ in the form of high-fives. The cat, which lives at the temple in Suzhou, Jiangsu province, has hogged the limelight with its endearing gesture, in which it holds out its paw to receive visitors’ hands, creating joy and good fortune.

The temple, dating back to the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368), is a stunning combination of traditional Buddhist architecture and traditional Chinese garden style. Its 500 intricately carved Arhat statues in its Arhat Hall and Free Life Pond, which once hosted ancient Asian giant softshell turtles, are merely some of its draws. But it is the temple’s in-habitants, such as the high-fiving cat, that have stolen hearts.

The adorable cat has a heavy gold-plated chain draped around its neck and has become the temple’s surprise celebrity, drawing crowds of devotees and tourists willing to accept its ‘blessing.’ With videos of the cat’s high-fives going viral online, individuals worldwide have fallen in love with its charming nature. The Xiyuan Temple, which was once a peaceful haven, is now buzzing with activity, all because of its feline companion’s new fame.
