A wildlife video showing a tiger using a tourist vehicle to successfully prey on a calf has gone viral on X.
The clip was posted last month by Indian Forest Service officer Surendra Mehra, with the caption: “’Human Shield’ or ‘Hunting Corridors’… Many scientific studies have shown that in high density tourism zones, a predator utilizes a vehicle to successfully execute a kill. It alters the natural balance of the hunt by inadvertently compromising the prey’s natural defense mechanisms.”
The footage highlights how the presence of safari vehicles can disrupt the natural predator-prey dynamic. Experts note that while predators may exploit vehicles as cover, it reduces the prey’s ability to detect threats and escape.
The post drew widespread attention. One user commented, “Sir, a very insightful post! It’s striking how human presence can unintentionally alter natural hunting behavior, highlighting the need for carefully managed tourism!”
Another added, “The forest functions on a delicate balance built over thousands of years—every chase, escape, and survival instinct matters. Excessive vehicle density, crowding around sightings, and irresponsible tourism can unintentionally tilt that balance against prey species.”
