A recent video that surfaced online has stirred mixed reactions after it shows two individuals dressed up as Valak, a character from the horror film ‘The Nun,’ playing Garba. Garba is a traditional dance associated with Navaratri celebrations.

The video of the two dressed-up nuns playing Garba was initially shared on X (formerly Twitter) by a user named Saloni. The viral video portrays the two Valak nuns dressed up people energetically dancing among other individuals donned in traditional attire during Navaratri festivities. My onlookers were seen recording this unconventional sight.

A significant section of netizens found this display disrespectful towards Goddess Durga, as Garba is traditionally a celebratory dance performed as an act of devotion to the Goddess. One user commented saying, “Garba is a celebration to dance and please Goddess Durga, not Halloween. People seemed to have lost their way.”

Another person expressed, “It is not funny at all. They should face consequences for mocking Devi Maa. Garba is not a dance or costume show; it is about venerating the Goddess. The current generation seems to have lost touch with tradition.

Some online users even commented humorously on the situation. Taking to the comments section of the post, one user wrote, “When you feel lifeless inside but attend Garba due to social pressure,” while another quipped, “When you’ve dressed up for a Halloween party but end up at Garba due to peer pressure.”
