This Bengal rickshaw-driver gives free rides to passengers who answer GK quiz

Bengal e-rickshaw is a new and fun way of learning. A rickshaw-driver, in West-Bengal is giving free rides to passengers who can answer a general knowledge quiz.

In recent light of events, a Facebook post by Sankalan Sarkar, who took an e-rickshaw popularly known as toto in Bengal, has caught huge deal of attention. He said hat he was surprised when the driver suddenly popped the idea to him. At first he misunderstood that the driver was probably just trying to make double money, he still went along with it.

While sharing the post Sankalan wrote, “Today I met one of the most interesting people I’ve ever come across in Liluah. We were traveling on his Toto (battery run e-rickshaw, for those who haven’t been on one) to Rangoli Mall when suddenly he turned around and asked us, ‘I’ll let go of the fare if you can answer 15 general knowledge questions I’m going to ask you.'”

He further mentioned how his wife was amused and his first thought was that the driver was “not too happy with the fare” and was trying to double it by intending to goof up on even one question. Therefore, Sankalan said that he will give him the fair anyway but he wants to hear the questions. To which, the rickshaw-driver began his series of questions with the first one being, ‘Who wrote Jana Gana Mana Adhi?’

“I was now sure he was a crack-pot. He accepted his mistake, though. His next question was, ‘Who was the first CM of West Bengal?’ Now it was my turn to eat humble pie. Using all my presentation skills gathered from a 13 year corporate existence, I tried B.C.Ray. I was wrong. This Vikram-Betaal thing went on for some more time. From Sridevi’s birthdate to the world’s first test-tube baby, we covered a wide range of topics. I asked him one or two, and he answered them all. I was impressed,” Sarkar wrote.
On being amazed by his knowledge, Sankalan then couldn’t resist but ask him about his qualification. To which the driver said that due to financial constraints he had to drop out of school in class 6, but kept reading about things till 2 AM at night everyday. Apparently, the auto-driver is also a member of the Liluah Book Fair Foundation.\
