Raghunandan, Director of the Planetary Society of India, clarified that it is a research helium balloon that has been sent by the National Balloon Facility. It was sent for atmospheric studies and it carries an instrument weighing approximately 1000 kg. He added that, a notice had been issued last month by the facility where it had been informed that a research balloon will be sent.
