Setting example for others! Firm gives Rs 16 crore to employee for daughter’s treatment

A coal firm in Chhattisgarh handed over a cheque of Rs. 16 crore to an employee whose 2-year-old daughter is suffering from Spinal Muscular Atrophy. The treatment of the illness requires an imported injection called Zolgensma of that amount.

South Eastern Coalfields Limited is situated in Korba district of Chhattisgarh and the employee in need is identified as Satish Kumar Ravi, who is an overman at the firm.

Reportedly, SECL Dipka project mining general manager Shashank Shekhar Dewangan said that a cheque of Rs. 16 crore was handed over to Satish on Friday, for the treatment of his daughter, Shristi Rani. The toddler is suffering from a rare genetic disease, SMA, according to which a person loses all control over its muscle movements due to loss of nerve cells in the spinal cord and brain stem. However, Zolgensma injection which costs Rs. 16 crore and is only available in the United States of America, is required as part of the treatment.

After being diagnosed with SMA, in December last year, the child has been on portable ventilator support at her home ever since. She is currently undergoing treatment in stints from AIIMS Delhi and SECL-empanelled Apollo Hospital in Bilaspur.

Coal India Limited (CIL), of which SECL is a part, is winning hearts of the netizens for its unique contribution and showed that employees and their families are the real wealth of an establishment.
