A clip of the 3rd AC coach of the Sikkim Mahananda Express packed with passengers has gone viral on social media, inviting a hail of criticism everywhere. In the clip, reserved passengers are seen waiting helplessly as others force their way into the AC coach and convert it into a general compartment. They covered the passage lobby and stood next to the reserved seats, causing discomfort to ticket-holding passengers.
The video was shared by an X account @ILoveSiliguri, which said the incident was happened at Katihar and had left reserved passengers agitated. “Though it is an AC coach, it became a crowded general compartment, triggering serious questions about railway management,” the caption said.
Railway Seva replied to the incident, apologizing for the poor experience passengers had and requesting journey details to act immediately. “We regret the experience you had. Please provide your journey details (PNR/UTS no.) & Mobile no. preferably through DM so that we may take immediate action,” the reply stated. But netizens were not happy with the reply, with many slamming the apologetic tone and asking for more firm action.
Some passengers criticized the railway officials, opining that apologies would not suffice and action against the railway police and refunds were called for. One of them said, “What regret? Getting our money right? If we provide our PNR number, goons will beat us up.” Another called for reducing salary of on-duty staff and refunding money to all concerned travelers. The incident has sparked alarm regarding railway management and safety of passengers.
