Mumbai Teacher Wins Hearts On Social Media For Converting Auto Into Ambulance, Ferrying Covid Patients

It is rightly said, not all superheroes wear capes. A glaring example is Dattatraya Sawant, a part-time English teacher at Dnyansagar Vidya Mandir School in Mumbai.

Dattatraya has converted his auto-rickshaw into a makeshift ambulance and is ferrying COVID-19 patients to hospitals. Most importantly, he is doing everything for free of cost.

Considering his selfless help towards covid patients, he can be truly acclaimed as a COVID-19 warrior. His makeshift auto-rickshaw ambulance comes complete with a PPE kit, sanitisations and other essentials. It was after Maharashtra saw a sudden surge in covid-19 cases, Sawant decided to do his bit to help the patients and decided to provide free services to the people.

“I drop off corona patients to covid care centre and the hospital for free of charge, and also bring discharged patients from the hospital and covid centre to their respective homes,” he said to ANI news agency.

His selfless story soon went viral on social media and everyone praised him for his good deeds. Among many social media users who praised him were former cricketer VVS Laxman.

Taking to his Twitter handle, VVS Laxman wrote, “Dattatraya Sawant, a school teacher by profession and a part-time autorickshaw driver, gives free rickshaw rides to COVID patients. He picks up and drops patients from the hospital without charging them. Hats off to his noble initiative. Pray that we overcome this soon.”
