Indian couple dumps garbage on roadside in Canada, viral video sparks widespread debate
Viral video sparks outrage over Indian couple dumping garbage in Canada, raising questions about public behavior and civic sense abroad.
A video of a couple littering on the side of a Canadian road has incensed people on the internet. The clip, which has been viewed more than 620,000 times, seems to feature the couple, identified as possibly being of Indian origin based on their clothing, dumping several bags full of rubbish into a wooded area. The lady, clad in a salwar suit, is witnessed spilling the contents of the bags, while the man is standing alongside her, oblivious to the passerby capturing the scene.
The video has elicited a storm of condemnation, with numerous social media users condemning the couple’s actions as “abhorrent behavior”. Journalist Neelesh Misra had also commented on the matter, “Whether in India or Canada, this has to be called out and penalized”. Some of the users vented their frustrations on social media, with one post stating, “They made their country a toilet. Now they’re doing the same in lovely clean Canada. Don’t just film. Call it out!”
Yet, not everyone shares the opinion that the couple is absolutely guilty. Some users claim that the individual recording the video ought to have intervened rather than simply filming. One user noted, “Let’s be honest, the person filming is just as guilty. Say something, stop them, don’t just record for views”. Others have even gone so far as to speculate that the couple could have been leaving food out for animals, stating that the rubbish resembled lettuce.
Although the outrage has ensued, the couple’s identity and authenticity of the video are not confirmed. The event has fueled a public debate regarding civic sense and behavior and how people should conduct themselves while overseas.
