Hyderabad restaurant serves biryani with cigarette butt, sparks outrage, WATCH

Hyderabad: A group of friends discovered a shocking find at the popular biryani joint Bawarchi in Hyderabad’s RTC X Road. The internet was left in a state of shock following an incident in which one of the diners found a cigarette butt cooked into their biryani.

In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter), by Vineeth K shows diners protesting and raising the plate to reveal the cigarette butt. The caption says, “Cigarette butts in Bawarchi biryani.” It would perhaps be better if the learning process of cooking biryani at home prevents such incidents as Vineeth K has suggested.

As the video continues to play, employees of the restaurant are seen trying to pacify the angry customers. At times, some of them discuss a solution as they try to come up with a remedy for the complaints of the patrons. One of the diners speculated that the reason may have been that perhaps somebody was smoking in the kitchen. This brought out criticism over the hygiene of the restaurant.

It is an incident that raises the alarm about food safety and hygiene practices in restaurants. It is a wake-up call for the diners to be more vigilant, to inspect the food before consumption, and for the restaurants to make sure their kitchen staff follow proper hygiene protocols.

Bawarchi has apologized in writing with regard to the incident while promising to make sure similar incidents do not occur by putting stringent measures in the future. This incident was condemned by a large amount of people through social networks who are asking for much stronger implementation of food regulations and stricter restaurant accountability to allow consumers to dine without risks.

Reacting to the video, one user commented, “These things happen. When I was a college student, found a cigarette butt in the bowl of sambhar in my college canteen. Talking of 1996. Did not raise a ruckus. Quietly worked with the management to improve safety. Hear from current students that food quality there now is great.”

Another user commented, “Some people(Customers )are doing this intentionally for free meal. Thats why All restaurant should have CCTV to check, to find out whose fault.”
