German shepherd rescued after drifting miles out to sea on inflatable kayak
After a long search involving volunteers, the coastguard, and a sightseeing boat, the adventurous dog's adventure ended safely.
Bruce the German Shepherd is now an internet sensation after he was rescued from the sea off the Northumberland coast, after taking an unexpected trip on an inflatable kayak.
The German Shepherd was said to have somehow found his way onto a kayak at some point off the shore and was then blown out miles to sea.
As fear grew for the safety of the dog, an enormous rescue operation was initiated, involving the coastguard, local volunteers, and a number of sightseeing boat operators.
The rescue operation involved trying to trace the drifting kayak and locate the stranded canine. A local sightseeing boat managed to locate and recover Bruce and save the adventurous pet.
Despite being at sea for such a length of time, Bruce was found alive and unharmed and safely recovered to be reunited with his owners and well-wishers on shore.
The unusual rescue captured the imagination of social media users, who praised the team for their success.
Animal lovers were left somewhat anxious, but ultimately found the rescue heart-warming; other users humorously commented on Bruce being a solo sea explorer.
The successful rescue shows the importance of lifeboat volunteers, coastguard teams, and local operators.
