Bengaluru: A shocking incident took place on a Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus travelling from Devanahalli to Majestic. A conductor is charged with slapping a passenger who is a musician from the Northeast and lives in Bengaluru, after a disagreement regarding a ticket. The passenger said that he is not a frequent bus user he didn’t know he had to proactively go to the conductor for a ticket.
When a squad of checkers arrived, he was fined Rs. 420 for riding without a ticket and an argument erupted which led to physical aggression. There is a video of the dispute going viral on social media, where the passenger is seen demanding the conductor’s name and threatening to visit the police station.
The passenger posted his ordeal online, seeking justice and action from BMTC. BMTC has stated that the complaint was filed, but an official statement has not yet been given. The passenger pointed out fear of retaliation for not retaliating physically, and as a Northeasterner in Bengaluru understands the potential of harm.. The incident has evoked controversy on social media, with commuters condemning the attack and calling for tougher action against the conductor. The video has evoked concern over passenger security and the conduct of public transport employees.
