Malaysia: A family in Kampung Dew, Kamunting, Malaysia, went through a frightening experience as they witnessed a gargantuan python measuring over five meters in length and weighing an estimated 80 kilograms. It broke through the living room ceiling and landed directly onto their sofa.
Reports from the New Straits Times indicate that the snake somehow entered the residential area when it strayed from the nearby oil palm plantation. The family, alarmed, immediately contacted the Taiping District Civil Defence Force, a unit of Malaysia’s civil defence agency Angkatan Pertahanan Awam (APM) at around 8 PM.
Reportedly, it involved the intervention of seven APM officers who, on arrival at the scene, responded to the emergency led by the district official, Faizulhalimi Mohd Yunus. They had to demolish the ceiling section of the living room to capture the snake.
A video shared by Brut America on Instagram shows a tremendous hole in the ceiling of a room and the python sprawling over the sofa in such enormous size that stuns any viewer.
One of the largest snake species of the world, the gargantuan pythons are originally found in the South and Southeast Asian parts. The reptile animals are infamous for devouring humans, cats, dogs, birds, rats, as well as other snakes.
As per the record of Encyclopaedia Britannica, the maximum recorded length of the python is about 9.6 meters or 31.5 feet. Most of them live in the forest, swamp, as well as canal. Increasing habitat encroachment brings such snakes in urban places as well.
The incident has highlighted potential dangers of human-wildlife conflict and reminded us of the need for coexistence and conservation efforts.
