Yellow warning for heavy rain in Odisha for today, alert issued for 5 districts

Bhubaneswar: Yellow warning for heavy rain in Odisha on Tuesday said reports, the MeT has issued alert for five districts. Heavy rain is expected in the state for two days.

A significant low pressure is active over South Bangladesh and adjoining areas. It will intensify and move towards North-Northwest direction. As a result of this, it will rain in the state. Yellow warning has been issued to 5 districts that is Keonjhar, Sundergarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur and Deogarh for heavy rain. The amount of rain will decrease from August 21.

The Meteorological (MeT) Center has estimated that there will be thundershowers especially in most parts of North Odisha and some parts of South Odisha. In view of this, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has instructed all district officials to be alert. Also, due to rain, there is a possibility of flash flooding and waterlogging situation.

As many as six more people died due to lightning strikes in five districts of Odisha -Kendrapara, Balasore, Jajpur, Subarnapur, and Bhadrak on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed his deep condolences over the deaths of six people in lightning strikes and announced ex gratia payment of Rs 4 lakh each to the kin of the deceased. The CM also announced free medical treatment for the injured persons.

Notably, Odisha witnessed as many as ten lightning deaths on Saturday.
