The women also sought the arrest of Odisha Loka Samukhya chief and RTI activist, Ashok Nanda, a friend of Subash, who allegedly posted derogatory remarks on Subash’s wife Charulata Mohapatra on Whatsapp and other social networking sites.
The angry women held a rally in the town before staging a demonstration in front of the police station.
They sought justice for Charulata, who is from the locality, and questioned why the police are yet to arrest the RTI activist even 15 days after a case was filed against him.
Later, they submitted a memorandum addressed to the Superintendent of Police (SP) Sarthak Sarangi to the Tahasildar.
The irate women also threatened to call for a complete bandh in the town if the police fail to arrest the RTI activist, whom they termed a traitor, within a week. Many local intellectuals also raised their voice against Mohapatra.
Police assured the agitators of action after proper investigation into the incident.
Charulata had on Thursday had approached Bhubaneswar DCP seeking action against her husband and his friend Ashok Nanda.
