Woman alleges custodial death of husband in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: A woman has alleged custodial death of her husband in Badagada police station of Bhubaneswar.

The deceased has been identified as Debendra Chaudhury. He lived along with his family in Kapilprasad area near Ekamra College Road in Sundarapada.

Reportedly, Chaudhury was arrested on Sunday for allegedly stealing a cycle. Thereafter, he fell ill in custody following which he was rushed to Capital Hospital, Unit-6.

However, the doctors pronounced him brought dead.

“My husband was picked up by the police after My brothers dropped my husband at Rasulgarh on Sunday evening,” said Debendra’s wife.

“When I tried to contact him, his mobile was found to be switched off,” she added.

She further said that late at around 1.30 am, the cops knocked her door and inquired details about her. “But they did not reveal anything, rather asked me to visit Capital Hospital,” said deceased’s wife.

Later after arriving at the hospital, she was informed that Chaudhury has died. Till the last reports came in, the woman has alleged that Chaudhury has been beaten to death in police custody.
