Wife killed, Husband critical In Elephant Attack In Angul

Angul: In a tragic incident, a woman has been killed while her husband has sustained critical injuries in an elephant attack in Santhapada village of Talcher in Angul district late on Monday night.

The deceased has been identified as Kanchan Munda.

Reportedly, an elephant herd came across the Brahmani river from Saranga in the Dhenkanal district and reached Santhapada village in search of food.

A tusker among the elephant herd attacked the couple while they were sleeping at home last night and dragged Kanchan out of the house. As a result, she lost her life on the spot, while her husband identified Mukunda Munda, sustained critical injuries.

The villagers rushed Mukunda to a local hospital for immediate medical treatment.

On getting the information, the Talcher Forest Department arrived at the spot and initiated an investigation. Notably, the elephant herd has crossed the river and returned back to the Dhenkanal district, said sources.
