White tigress Mousumi’s cub dies in Nandankanan
In a sad news for the wildlife enthusiasts, a cub of Mousumi, the majestic white tigress of Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP) in Odisha, died on Saturday night.
Bhubaneswar: In a sad news for the wildlife enthusiasts, a cub of Mousumi, the majestic white tigress of Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP) on the outskirt of Bhubaneswar City in Odisha, died on Saturday night.
As informed by sources, the white cub was very weak and underweight ever since its birth on June 7 this year. The authorities of the zoo along with a special team of doctors had been providing intensive treatment to the cub and were making all efforts to keep it alive. But unfortunately, the tiger cub breathed its last yesterday night while undergoing treatment.
It is to be noted here that Tigress Mousumi had delivered two cubs at 9.15 PM and 11.03 PM in Enclosure 28B of the Nandankanan Zoological Park in the night of June 7.
The cubs were born after a successful mating between Mousumi and normal-coloured tiger Rajesh on February 27 and 28. Mousumi was born to tiger Manish and tigress Sneha at Nandankanan in 2016.
With the death of Mousumi’s cub, the number of tigers at the Nandankanan Zoological Park came down to 28. This includes, 19 normal-coloured tigers (11 males, 7 females, 1 cub), five white tigers (3 males, 2 females), and four melanistic tigers (3 males, 1 female).
Meanwhile, the white tiger cub’s death has saddened the wildlife lovers.
