Water being discharged through 6 sluice gates in Hirakud Dam
Sambalpur: Flood water is being discharged through six sluice gate in Hirakud Dam of Sambalpur district in Odisha, said reports on Monday.
The water is being drained from two gates on the right and four on the left side of the dam. The water level of the dam stands at 613.41 foot. 1,38,610 cusec water is entering the dam whereas 1,30,684 cusec is leaving the dam.
Recently on July 28, the world’s longest dam, Hirakud had released the first flood water of 2024 after the water level increased in the upper catchment area due to continuous rain. As many as 20 gates of the dam were opened after the ceremonial puja.
According to official reports, 2 lakh 34 thousand 334 cusecs of water entered the Hirakud dam every second while 33 thousand 720 cusecs of water was being discharged.
Hirakud Reservoir authorities have further informed that more Hirakud Sluice Gate might open if the water level in the upper catchment area rises due to continuous rain.
